New families: These instructions may seem overwhelming but they will all become familiar to you very quickly. They are in place to keep your children, yourself and our staff safe. If you drive slowly, pay attention to the staff directing you and please stay off your cell phone, you will be where you need to be to drop off or pick up your child. You can following other cars and if in doubt, wave down a staff member and ask.
Please READ the following arrival procedures CAREFULLY AND THOROUGHLY. Know that first and foremost, the safety and well–being of our children are our top priorities. Additional staff members will be on hand the first few days of school to provide direction. Please follow their guidance in the parking lots.
Note: In order to help us identify those cars transporting both middle and elementary school students, we are asking parents to display their “MCS Middle School ID Card” in the front of your windshield.
Carpool Cards and Middle School/Elementary Parking ID Cards will be available at New Parent Orientation, Meet ’n Greet Open House, and on the first day of school in the school offices. You may request additional cards in case another family member brings your children or for car–pooling purposes.
All traffic at the elementary building will be one–way, only, entering from the Mountain Road entrance or from the middle school lot and exiting via the Jerusalem Road driveway.
Drive up to the crosswalk where you will be directed to drop off your child(ren). You will then proceed down the hill and exit via the Jerusalem Road driveway.
During school hours, all middle school traffic will flow in from the Stockton Road entrance. Students should be dropped off in the lane in front of the middle school entrance. Parents needing to visit the school may park and use the crosswalk.
Parents dropping off middle school students may only exit one of two ways:
When using the drop–off lanes, parents may not exit the vehicle. If you need to get out of the car to help your student, please park and use the crosswalk. Students may exit from the right–hand side of the car only. This will prevent them from exiting the car in a traveled lane of traffic!
Parents picking up elementary students, only, may NOT park in the first two rows of the upper lot near the flagpole. These are reserved for parents transporting both middle and elementary school children.
All elementary school students will be dismissed at 3:20 pm from the lobby of Cook Auditorium.
Parents waiting for students must wait outside in the areas designated around the circular drive.
At 3:20 pm the first whistle will sound for parents to proceed to pick up their child(ren). Those with more than one elementary–age child will simply proceed from class to class to retrieve their children. Classes will be lined up relatively close together and in sequential order to assist in making this routine flow smoothly. Faculty and staff will direct the flow of traffic.
At 3:25 pm a second whistle will sound. Students not picked up at this time are “curbed” while the first wave of drivers is dismissed. (“Curbed” means they remain on the curb with their teacher.)
At 3:30 pm a third whistle will sound for parents to pick up the remaining children and proceed to their cars. Again, faculty and staff will direct the flow of traffic.
Middle School students will be dismissed at 3:20 pm. Parents picking up middle school students are to PARK and WAIT in designated parking area for a teacher to signal the release of your row.
Homeroom teachers will bring classes outside in grade levels to be dismissed.
Note: Carpool Cards and Middle School/Elementary Parking ID Cards will be available at New Parent Orientation, Meet ’n Greet Open House, and on the first day of school in the school offices.
