Late Arrival and Late Pickup Policy

Late Arrival

Any student arriving to the classroom late (after 8:15 am) is to have a written note explaining the reason for tardiness, or the parent driver should accompany the student to the office. Students arriving late for school must report to the appropriate office (Elementary of Middle School Building) to obtain a late pass before entering class.

Late Afternoon Pickup

All children who are not part of the Mountain Christian Extended Care After School Program must be picked up by 3:20 pm. The office will immediately contact parents of those students who are not picked up on time. The parent/guardian must sign out the child at the office.

Upon the third occurrence of late pickup, a letter will be sent to the parent assessing a $25 late pickup fee to the family of the child for any future occurrences. More than three occurrences in one marking period, or five occurrences during the school year, may result in dismissal from MCS.

Any child who is contracted for Extended Care for one hour after school must be picked up by 4:30 pm. If the child is picked up after 4:30 pm, the family will be assessed the penalty fee of $5.00 per each 5 minutes, or portion thereof. More than three occurrences in one marking period or five occurrences in one year will be cause for dismissal from the Extended Care Program, or require a contract for the second hour of Extended Care.

The State of Maryland requires the school to keep records of the number of children using the Extended Care Program. It is essential that we have staffing appropriate to the anticipated usage. Please return the Extended Care Application to the MCS office by July 15 prior to the start of school if you are in need of Extended Care before or after school. Staffing needs are determined by registrations received by July 15. Any applications received after July 15 will be placed on a waiting list.

Hours of Operation

The Mountain Christian School Extended Care Program will operate each school day morning from 7:00 am to 8:00 am and each school day afternoon from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm. A parent or guardian must pick up all children by 5:30 pm. If parents do not meet this deadline, an additional penalty charge of $5.00 for each additional 5 minutes, or portion thereof, will be billed to the family for additional child care services. More than three occurrences in one marking period, or more than five occurrences in one year will be cause for dismissal from the Extended Care Program.

For students who are not part of the Extended Care Contract Program, the school doors will open at 7:55 am. If non–extended care children are dropped off before 7:55 am, they will have to wait outside until the school doors are opened. Only those students contracted for the Extended Care Program will be permitted in the Extended Care Program prior to 7:55 am.
