Ben Carson Scholarship Information

Students in grades 4-8 are invited to compete for the annual Ben Carson Scholarship. MCS has been invited to recommend one student for consideration for this $1,000 scholarship, which will be applied toward college. Eligible students must be in grades 4-8, have a grade point average of 3.75 or higher, and submit a 500-word essay discussing his/her humanitarian qualities demonstrated by school and/or community programs and/or service. If you would like to know more details, please call our guidance counselor, Mrs. Debbie Imhoff, at 410-877-7333. Applications and essays are due to Mrs. Imhoff by January 9, 2009.

Summer, Fall and Winter Pictures for the Yearbook

The Yearbook committee is still in search of pictures of MCS friends having fun in the sun this summer and at school so far this year, especially any special pictures you take for field trips or student activities. You may send in pictures to the school office (attention Yearbook Committee).

PTF Membership is for Everyone!

I can’t think of one reason why an MCS parent wouldn’t want to support our school by joining the PTF. EVERY child here at MCS benefits from your dues. Keeping in mind a fragile economy, we’ve done our best to keep the dues at $15 per family for the past seven years. Unlike a fundraiser, PTF dues help get our school year rolling! A fundraiser, on the other hand, makes it possible to fund the large–scale initiatives designed to improve and enhance our overall program. Whether you have one or four children, your PTF dues will make a difference. In return for your investment, the following projects can be funded:

  • The start up fee for our annual Spring Golf Tournament.
  • The Meet the Masters Art Program.
  • Postage and materials for the Big M Fall Fundraiser.
  • Child care for PTF functions.
  • Field trip buses.
  • The Junior Achievement Program for fourth and fifth grades.

What a deal! Nothing more is required of you. Simply send in a note to school with your family’s name, the names and grades of your children, your phone number and e-mail address and include a $15 check made out to “MCS PTF”.  It’s that easy!

Easy Ways to Earn Extra Help for MCS

Check out these programs! Just your normal shopping can help in so many ways…

TARGET – If you have a Target credit card, be sure to stop by the Customer Service Desk to designate MCS to receive a percentage of your purchase. (Note–we recently received a check from Target for $330!!!)

STAPLES – Simply send your empty HP, Dell, or Lexmark toner cartridges in to school in a Ziploc bag and mark it PTF. Staples will send us a quarterly check to help our school. Each cartridge is worth $3.00!

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION – Look for small box top labels to cut off General Mills cereal boxes, Pillsbury items, Old El Paso foods, Kleenex boxes and more. Just send these items to school. Each label will earn $.10 for our school, which can add up over the year if everyone participates!

GIANT – If you have a Giant Bonus Card, just complete the form below and drop it off at any Giant store, or go to the website to designate MCS as the recipient of Giant’s A+ Bonus Bucks Program. The school ID for MCS is already entered on the form below.

Phoning Home

Please be aware that students are not permitted to call home for forgotten lunches, assignments, or to make after-school arrangements. Students are also not permitted to be called to the phone to speak to a parent during the school day. In cases of emergency, the school office will deliver and/or receive messages between parents and students. Please refer to Handbook Section 540.5. Thank you for your understanding.

Let’s Talk Lunch

Lunch order envelopes will be sent home every Wednesday to be turned in the following Monday. Please send your child’s lunch order and payment in the envelope provided. Lunch orders can only be processed on Monday morning. We cannot accept lunch orders later in the week.

  • Tuesdays and Thursdays – Chick-Fil-A (Soup will not be an option this year, but fresh fruit salad will be added to our menu choice.)
  • Wednesdays – Nachos and Hot Dogs
  • Fridays – Pizza Hut

Milk and snacks are available each day in the lunchroom with no need to pre-order. Each item is $.50.

Credit Slips for Lunches

Please keep in mind that when your child is absent and has ordered lunch for the day of absence, his/her lunch order is cancelled. A lunch credit slip is then sent home. You may use the credit slip instead of cash for the next week’s lunch.

Lunches may only be paid for by using a credit slip or cash/check. Please do not send a note in lieu of payment.

Medication During School Hours

If your child will require ANY type of medication to be administered during school hours, it MUST be in the original container and accompanied by an authorization form completed and signed by your child’s physician. This applies to prescription as well as over-the-counter medications. Please print out the Maryland State Medication Form or pick it up at the school office.

A separate medication authorization form must be submitted for each medication. If these guidelines are not followed, we cannot administer the medication. All medication must be specifically labeled for your child.

Please notify us verbally AND in writing of ANY food-related allergies prior to the start of school.
