Uniform Info and General Dress Code Guidelines
Following are a few reminders regarding the uniform policy:
- Chapel Uniforms
Middle School boys – must wear the blue oxford dress shirt, uniform tie, and long khaki pants.
Middle School girls – must wear the navy polo shirt and plaid kilt.
Elementary boys – must wear the white oxford dress shirt, uniform tie, and long green pants.
Elementary girls – must wear a jumper and white shirt.
- Shorts and/or Skorts are not to be worn on chapel days. Boys may wear shorts only in the fall and spring months (April–June and September–October). Girls may wear shorts or skorts year-round (except on chapel days) as long as tights or knee highs are worn during winter months (November–March).
- Uniform shirts/blouses may not have any lace edgings or other embellishments. Elementary students may wear plain white three-button golf shirts, plain white turtle neck shirts, or (girls) plain white peter pan collar shirts. White shirts not purchased form Flynn & O'Hara must be void of any insignias or embellishments. Middle school blue polo shirts must be purchased from Flynn & O'Hara.
- All P.E. Uniforms, pants, shorts, jumpers, skirts, skorts, ties, and blue oxford or blue polo shirts must be purchased from Flynn & O'Hara. Hooded sweat shirts are optional – if worn during school must be from Flynn & O'Hara.
- Shoes need to be safe, non-skid oxford-type shoes and may be purchased at the store of your choice. No shoes resembling boots, tennis shoes, or moccasins are permitted (except for tennis shoes for P.E.). All shoes must have a non-skid sole and have closed toes and closed backs (no flip-flops or clogs even on non-uniform days). Shoes must be solid in color and may be black, brown, tan, or dark navy. No heels higher than 1"(you may allow for 3/8" sole thickness above the heel). Note: The "dress" tennis shoe is a new trend. This style will not be permitted for the 2008–2009 school year.
- Socks: Girls may wear ankle socks, knee highs, or tights. Knee highs and tights may be white, navy blue, dark green, or black. Boys' socks may be white, dark green, tan, or black. Ankle socks must be white, with no accent colors, and must cover the ankle.
- General Guidelines: Items not discussed in the above guidelines are not permitted. Please keep in mind that students need to present a conservative and neat appearance. Students MAY NOT have hair dyed, highlighted, or streaked, MAY NOT have tattoos (temporary or permanent), MAY NOT have any piercings (other than girls with no more than two matched sets of earrings in the lower ear lobe). Earrings may not extend more than 1/2" from the ear lobe. Nails may not have adornments or be polished in dark colors. Boys' hair must be neat and trimmed above the collar, ears, and eyes. Makeup is not permitted.
- Fashion trends change often; the school reserves the right to adjust guidelines accordingly throughout the school year. Please note that uniforms, hair length and coloring, and general appearance of MCS students will be closely monitored throughout the school year.
